WSL set to break viewership records

Landmark broadcast agreements with the BBC and Sky are set to deliver a record-breaking total season UK audience of 14.5 million for the Women’s Super League (WSL).

The WSL would become the fourth highest viewed domestic league in the UK if audience figures hold for the remainder of the 2021/22 season according to a study from Nielsen Sports.

Women’s Sports Group were exclusive advisors to The FA on the successful first unbundled media rights tender process for women’s football.

The milestone deal was the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s first-ever monetised domestic rights agreement which delivered value and investment into the women’s game.

Nielsen Sports’ figures reveal the WSL is seeing an average match audience of 501,000 on public service broadcaster the BBC and 114,000 viewers on Sky Sports.

Only the Premier League, the Championship and the men’s The Hundred competition would attract higher viewership if the WSL keeps up its current pace.
